An extraordinarily humble autobiography from someone who has more than earned the right to lather himself with praise; Bob Iger was the visionary CEO of Disney who led the company through the massive acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Fox (I was surprised to learn that they were one phone call away from acquiring Twitter!). My favourite part of the book was the Pixar deal, Iger's first acquisition after being appointed CEO, recounting how he fixed the relationship between Disney and Steve Jobs, ultimately making a close friend in the process.

Rather than relying on hindsight to justify his decisions post hoc, Iger is candid and reflective with his mistakes and I think there is a lot of wisdom in how he dealt with difficult situations. What stands out is Iger's deep respect and empathy for other people, which powerfully combined with his eye for strategy, making him an extremely effective CEO.

The first rule is not to fake anything. You have to be humble, and you can’t pretend to be someone you’re not or to know something you don’t. You’re also in a position of leadership, though, so you can’t let humility prevent you from leading.
